Questi due studi di Oscar Bellomo arrivano, a tre anni di distanza dai suoi Silencios, come un’ulteriore testimonianza del suo lavoro compositivo. Ancora una volta, Bellomo predilige la piccola forma per presentarsi in pubblico, ricusa lavori orchestrali o cameristici di ampio respiro e ci consegna due frammenti che appaiono, ne sono convinto tanto quanto lui, profondamente rivelatori del suo mondo poetico. Capriccio e πυρ (Pyr – “Fuoco”) sono due “scatti” isolati di quel flusso energetico primigenio che ha animato e anima il mondo partenopeo, la vitalità pagana, religiosa e scettica al contempo (non è un caso che uno dei più grandi filosofi scettici, Pirrone, derivasse il proprio appellativo proprio dal fuoco), tradotta sul piano musicale in un continuum nel quale l’elemento melodico si insinua instaurando una vivace contrapposizione dialettica con l’implacabile impalcatura ritmica. All’interprete non è richiesto impegno o virtuosismo, sarebbe riduttivo, ma la capacità di contattare la regione più ancestrale del proprio sentire e consegnarla alle note senza filtri. Impreziosisce questa pubblicazione la riproduzione in copertina di “Burning Trees”, opera di Ottavio Bellomo, fratello del compositore, che con grande lucidità e precisione traduce in immagine quello che tra le pagine viene evocato in musica. Il dedicatario è Giovanni Martinelli, scelta che appare ampiamente coerente con le considerazioni sin qui svolte. Per coloro a cui il nesso non fosse evidente, consiglio l’ascolto della sua straordinaria esecuzione di “Tellur” di Tristan Murail.

These two studies by Oscar Bellomo come, three years after his Silencios, as further evidence of his compositional work. Once again, Bellomo prefers the small form to present himself in public, rejecting orchestral or chamber works of wide scope and giving us two fragments that are, I am as convinced as he is, deeply revealing of his poetic world. Capriccio and πυρ (Pyr – “Fire”) are two isolated “shots” of that primordial energy flow that has animated and animates the Neapolitan world, the pagan vitality, religious and sceptical at the same time (It is no coincidence that one of the greatest sceptical philosophers, Pyrrhon, derived his name from fire), translated on a musical level into a continuum in which the melodic element insinuates itself, establishing a lively dialectic contrast with the implacable rhythmic framework. The interpreter is not asked for commitment or virtuosity, which would be reductive, he rather needs the ability to contact the most ancestral region of his own feeling and deliver it to the notes without filters. This publication is enriched by the reproduction on the cover of “Burning Trees” by Ottavio Bellomo, the composer’s brother, who translates into images with great lucidity and precision what is evoked in music between the pages. The dedicatee is Giovanni Martinelli, a choice that seems largely consistent with the considerations made so far. For those to whom the connection is not obvious, I recommend listening to his extraordinary performance of “Tellur” by Tristan Murail.
